Call yourself a Friggatriskaidekaphobia? The Friday the 13th phobea

The 13 landing on a Friday only happens each and every so often. Although there isn’t really any reason to be worried about it, many get scared and it’s called Friggatriskaidekaphobia. Granted, most black cats won’t do anything more harmful than shed or do that annoying thing with their paws. Regardless, individuals do indulge in their superstitions. The word for being scared of Friday the 13th is Friggatriskaidekaphobia. Jason Voorhees won’t appear, even if you say the word in the mirror 3 times.

How do you say that?

You say the word “fri-gah-tri-sk-eye-de-kah-fo-bia.” Being scared of Friday the thirteenth is called Portmanteau. It is interesting to note that Triskaidekaphobia is a fear of the number thirteen when friggaphobia is just a fear of Friday. That’s why together they make the word Friggatriskaidekaphobia. Friday was a day associated with witches. Friday ended up being named after Frigga, or Freya, who was the German/Norse goddess naming it Freya-day. Ancient world sexism is not our topic for today although the day was named, as argued by others, after a female deity, making it have an association with witches. Everyone scared of the number thirteen gets to be called a Triskaidekaphobia. The come together because “tri” means three and “deka” means the number 10.

Any real things happen Friday the 13th?

No, not really, for short. No would be the long answer too. A correlation to anything with Friday the 13th has never been observed, other than a few people getting the “heebie-jeebies” or Friggatriskaidekaphobia. If anything were actually to happen on Friday the thirteenth, somebody would have noticed by now and written it down. More individuals drink on Friday, meaning if there were more accidents on Friday the thirteenth, it could possibly be due to other things.

Under the ladder I go

Friggatriskaidekaphobia and other superstitions won’t hurt a fly. There are some other silly superstitions that are part of tradition. For instance, theater actors won’t actually say “MacBeth” in a theater, as the play is supposedly cursed, and refer to it only as “the Scottish play.”. This is a fantastic time to have a little bit of fun, like Halloween, so watch a movie with your friends or family that scares you a bit. Just don’t go to Crystal Lake.
